&lt;div&gt;The &#039;&#039;&#039;combining rules&#039;&#039;&#039;  are geometric expressions designed to provide the interaction energy between two dissimilar non-bonded atoms (here labelled &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;i&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; and &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;j&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt;).
